Marjolijn Dijkman

Segment 3: Atrium

Marolijn Dijkman's final project involved a collaboration with artist Wouter Osterholt. Their collaborative work consisted of site-specific installations and photo works, based on their observations on the organisation of space.

As the source of inspiration behind their work, they developed an archive of images of landscapes and spaces, categorized according to a personal ordering system. This method opened up challenging connections between categories, with places appearing to be for example "ambiguously functional", "dense with objects", "dense with people", and/or "unintentionally publicly accessible". The unexpected associations between various places and situations allowed the artists to question the naturalness and authenticity atttributed to certain locations.

For the PZI Graduation Show at TENT., Dijkman/Osterholt realized a site-specific installation, in which they investigated the relationship between the white cube exhibition space (and the sanctuary for art it intends to provide) with the highly theatrical and artificial arcadia of the office garden. Common to these two spaces are their overly stylized design, and the aim to open up the mind and provide an escape from everyday life. In the fragmented world of Segment III: Atrium the artists explored the desire to control nature, enforce relaxation, and evoke a vision of paradise, that characterize both the atrium and the exhibition space.
