a typical studio

The Fine Art studio building of the Piet Zwart Institute is located in the centre of Rotterdam. It houses studios, a project space, editing facilities for video, sound and 16 mm film, as well as the PZi Fine Art office. A typical studio is 7x8 m and shared between two. Participants have 24 hours access the entire year around.

Technical workshops and support for photography, video, multimedia, animation, sound, printmaking, wood, metal, ceramics, plastic casting and textiles as well as the library are housed in the Willem de Kooning Academy nearby.

The Piet Zwart Institute profits from the vibrant cultural context of Rotterdam. It is the home of renowned international platforms such as Witte de With and TENT. centres for contemporary art; Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen; the Netherlands Photo Museum; V2_Institute for the Unstable Media; WORM platform for film, radio, new music and sound art; the Netherlands Architecture Institute; the Berlage Institute for postgraduate education and research in architecture, urban planning and landscape design; the Rotterdamse Schouwburg (theatre); and the annual Poetry International festival and International Film Festival Rotterdam. It is also the setting for a strong tradition of artist run spaces/artists’ initiatives, such as Het Wilde Weten, Duende, Kaus Australis, B.a.d., Gil & Moti Homegallery, MAMA, ZiM and others. And it is the working base for a diverse community of artists, curators, designers, architects, theatre makers, and multidisciplinary collectives. Amsterdam and Antwerp are only an hour away.
